Archaeological Survey Launched in Pirojpur District

Pirojpur:An archaeological survey aimed at uncovering the history and heritage of Pirojpur district has commenced in four upazilas for the fiscal year 2026-27. The survey is being conducted by the Department of Archaeology's Khulna office in the upazilas of Pirojpur Sadar, Kaukhali, Nesarabad (Swarupkathi), and Nazirpur.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the survey was officially inaugurated by Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abu Sayeed during a ceremony held this morning. The event was presided over by Md Mahidul Islam, the Regional Director of the Department of Archaeology for the Khulna and Barishal divisions.

Officials stated that the survey aims to identify and document unexplored archaeological sites and relics in the district, which will create opportunities for their preservation in the future. The ceremony was attended by officials and employees from the district administration and the Department of Archaeology, along with local dignitaries and journalists.

Notable attendees included Md Zayed, Custodian of Bagerhat Museum; Field Officer Mosammat Irene Parvin; Assistant Custodian of Michael Madhusudan Dutta Memorial Museum Md Hasanuzzaman; and Assistant Custodian of Barishal Divisional Museum Arifur Rahman.
