Dhaka: A court in Dhaka has ordered the arrest of ten individuals, including former ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Dr Dipu Moni, and Rashed Khan Menon, in new cases related to the crimes committed during the student-led mass uprising that took place between July and August.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals who have been shown arrested also include Salman F Rahman, Haji Mohammad Salim, Sadek Khan, Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Shomi Kaiser, and former inspectors general of police Shahidul Haque and Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak issued the arrest orders as the police presented the accused in court and requested that they be formally charged in these cases. Following the court's decision, all ten were remanded back to jail.
Of the ten individuals, Amu, Salman, Dipu Moni, Shahidul Haque, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun have been arrested in connection with a case registered at the Jatrabari Police Station regarding the murder of Sajedur Rahman Omar. Meanwhile, Rashed Khan Menon has been arrested in the Monir Hossain murder case filed with the Shahbagh Police Station. Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Shomi Kaiser, and Sadek Khan face attempted murder charges filed at Bhatara, Uttara East, and Mohammadpur Police Stations, respectively.
