Dhaka: Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun announced that a $150 million investment agreement has been finalized with a Chinese textile company. This development is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 15,000 people in Bangladesh. The announcement was made during a press conference at the conclusion of the third day of the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, held at a city hotel.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chinese investors have shown significant interest in investing in Bangladesh, with plans for 200 investors to visit the country soon to further encourage investment. The BIDA Executive Chairman highlighted the connection established between foreign investors and local politicians during the summit, which has sparked interest in various sectors such as textile, garment, renewable energy, and light engineering.

In addition to the investment agreement, the summit facilitated meetings between investors and key figures, including the Chief Adviser. Notable interactions included discussions with representatives from Zara, Lafarge Cement, and German delegates. A significant proposal was made by the CEO of DP World to establish a free trade zone in Bangladesh, aimed at expanding trade and commerce. The proposal includes sending a delegation to Bangladesh to gain necessary experience before the free trade zone is established.

BIDA also signed an agreement with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to enhance the living standards of workers, which is anticipated to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country.
