DHAKA, May 24, 2017 (BSS) - Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today called for expanding Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to create employment opportunities to meet the growing demand of the country's workforce.
"We can create employment opportunities through expansion of manufacturing and light engineering industries," he said while inaugurating the construction work of Bangladesh Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (BTAC) Tool Institute building at Tejgaon in the city, said a press release.
The minister said the government, at the instruction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is establishing an industrial city at Keraniganj to accumulate the light engineering industries at one place.
He emphasized on developing technical knowledge based skilled manpower to achieve the goal of industrialization. "About 70 percent students are taking technical education in the industrial countries while the rate is only 10 percent in our country," he added.
BITAC Director General Dr. Dilip Kumar Sharma presided over the meeting while Industries Ministry Additional Secretary Sushen Chandra Das, was present, among others, in the meeting.
