CHITTAGONG: Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, paid tribute to the late BNP leader Ishaque Chowdhury, lauding his dedication and significant role in the pro-democracy and anti-fascist movements over the past 15 years. Speaking at a memorial meeting for Ishaque Chowdhury’s third death anniversary, Amir Khosru emphasized the late leader’s unwavering commitment to the party and his efforts to address workers’ issues and alleviate public suffering.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khosru praised Ishaque Chowdhury’s contributions to strengthening the BNP in his locality and inspiring the general populace to engage with the party’s activities. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest at the Char Chaktai School field, he highlighted Ishaque’s responsiveness to resolving workers’ problems and his vocal support for mitigating the challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
The memorial meeting, chaired by Ward BNP leader Yakub Chowdhury Nazim, underscored the late leader’s resilience against adversity. Amir Khosru recounted how Ishaque Chowdhury endured torture during the alleged fascist rule of the Awami League (AL) due to his involvement in democratic movements and party initiatives. Despite facing mental and physical hardships, Ishaque remained steadfast in his efforts to secure the release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia over the past 15 years.
The event also featured addresses by former city BNP general secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, central BNP leader Shamsul Alam, city unit joint convenor Yeasin Chowdhury Liton, former ward commissioner Yeasin Chowdhury Ashu, Prof. Nurul Alam Raju, Kamrul Islam, and Haji Nurul Akte, among others, who gathered to commemorate Ishaque Chowdhury’s enduring legacy.
