Chattogram: BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today asserted that no force would be able to obstruct the much-anticipated February 12 national elections, as citizens are resolute in reclaiming their long-denied voting rights. He emphasized the determination of the people, who have been deprived of their voting rights for the past 17 years, to participate in a free, credible, and participatory election scheduled for February 12.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khasru expressed confidence that “no quarter or force can stop this hard-earned democratic right,” while engaging in a dialogue with party leaders and workers on Friday evening. As the BNP-nominated candidate for the Chattogram-10 (Pahartali-Doublemooring) constituency, he convened the meeting with leaders and activists of Sulakbahar Ward to advance his election campaign and evaluate poll preparations. The gathering took place at his Mehedibagh residence in the city.

Highlighting the urgency of the moment, Amir Khasru remarked, “We have no time to waste as people’s aspirations are high. With Allah’s will, we will be able to meet the expectations of the countrymen,” underscoring the BNP’s capable leadership and extensive experience in ensuring national progress.

Amir Khasru also strongly condemned the attempted assassination of Inqilab Manch spokesperson and Dhaka-8 constituency hopeful Sharif Osman Hadi, describing the event as part of an ongoing conspiracy to derail the forthcoming election. “Such conspiracies may continue, but the people of the country will unitedly resist them. The election will be held on February 12,” he declared with conviction.

Addressing queries during a post-meeting media briefing, Amir Khasru reiterated that there would be no tolerance for dissident candidates within the party who might contest the polls against party directives. He emphasized that the BNP upholds liberal democracy and is not a cadre-based party. “There are differences of opinion and protests within the party, but at the end of the day we remain united,” he affirmed.

The meeting was attended by City unit BNP Joint Secretary Kazi Belal, executive committee members Kamrul Islam and Mamunul Islam Humayun, Sulakbahar ward BNP leaders Shamsul Alam and Shayesta Ullah Chowdhury, Ashraf Chowdhury, Golam Kader Chowdhury Nobel, and city unit member secretary of Swechasebak Dal Engineer Jamir Uddin Nahid, among others.
