Bhola: Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani has expressed a keen interest in investing in Bangladesh, particularly in the potential-rich district of Bhola, citing opportunities in agriculture, energy, fertilizer, and other key sectors. The ambassador made these remarks during his three-day visit to the island district, which began on May 13, accompanied by officials from the Algerian Embassy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Saidani exchanged views with local business leaders at the Bhola Circuit House and held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman. During these engagements, the ambassador emphasized Algeria’s longstanding friendly relations with Bangladesh, dating back to the country’s Liberation War in 1971. He remarked on Bangladesh’s promising potential in agriculture, fertilizer, and energy sectors and reiterated Algeria’s interest in investing across all sectors, including trade and commerce.
Dr. Saidani also participated in a views-exchange meeting organized by the Bhola Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He stated that his visit would further deepen bilateral relations and strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations. Highlighting Algeria’s historical support for Bangladesh during critical periods, Dr. Saidani assured that such cooperation would continue in the future. He also announced a significant facilitation for Bangladeshi citizens, promising that the Algerian Embassy would issue visas within 10 minutes.
Upon his arrival in the district, Dr. Saidani was warmly received by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman. The ambassador and the deputy commissioner engaged in fruitful discussions on Bhola’s potential in energy, fertilizer, agriculture, and pharmaceutical sectors. The discussions underscored the district’s prospects in gas-based industries, glass and ceramic industries, and fisheries and livestock sectors. Both sides explored Algeria’s investment interests and opportunities for joint ventures in Bhola.
The ambassador expressed hope that economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria would expand in the coming years, opening new avenues for trade and investment. Participants at the meeting deliberated on bilateral trade, investment possibilities, and aspects of mutual cooperation between the two countries. Business leaders described the meeting as a significant step towards strengthening friendly relations and expanding commercial ties between Bangladesh and Algeria.
The event was moderated by Bhola Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Humayun Kabir Sopan, with a welcome address delivered by Bhola Zila Parishad Administrator and Chamber President Golam Nabi Alamgir. Other notable speakers included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Abdullah Al Mamun, and Chamber directors Aminul Islam Khan, Md Raisul Alam, Tarikul Islam Kayes, and Md Sohel. The meeting saw the presence of local business leaders, entrepreneurs, and representatives of various industrial establishments.
After completing his three-day visit, the Algerian ambassador departed Bhola for Barishal around 10 am today.
