Dhaka: Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, met with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at the Bangladesh Secretariat today. During their meeting, the two officials explored avenues for enhancing bilateral relations and boosting trade between their nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Commerce Adviser emphasized the need to capitalize on trade potentials to sustain the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Algeria. He encouraged Algerian investors and entrepreneurs to increase their investments in Bangladesh. Highlighting Bangladesh’s status as the second-largest jute producer globally, Bashir urged Algeria to import more traditional jute-made goods from Bangladesh.
In response, the Algerian Ambassador advocated for the formation of an Inter Government Joint Economic Commission to further enhance bilateral trade. He acknowledged the demand for jute-made goods in Algeria and expressed interest in importing more such products from Bangladesh. Additionally, he suggested showcasing Bangladeshi traditional jute and jute-made goods at an upcoming expo in Algeria.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary M Abdur Rahim Khan, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General (Africa Wing) BM Jamal Hossain, among others.
