Dhaka: Institutional reform based on consensus is essential to foster sustainable democracy in Bangladesh, according to Advisers Md Nahid Islam and Md Mahfuj Alam. They assert that such reforms are crucial for safeguarding the future of democracy in the nation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the advisers shared their insights during the inaugural session of the ‘Foreign Policy Dialogue’ series, themed ‘Building a New Bangladesh – Reforms and Foreign Policy’. This event took place on Sunday at the foreign ministry, as per a press release from the ministry. The session was moderated by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md Jashim Uddin, and commenced with a minute’s silence for the martyrs of the July-August revolution. Additionally, attendees viewed a special short documentary on the significant events of July-August 2024.

The Foreign Secretary praised the advisers’ fearless roles, highlighting the youth’s capability to lead during critical times in the country’s history. He engaged in a dialogue with the advisers regarding reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government, as well as their perspectives on foreign policy, reform, mass uprisings, and the future of Bangladesh.

The dialogue included an interactive Q and A session, where young officers from the Ministry posed candid questions to the advisers, gaining insights on pivotal historical events in Bangladesh. In this session, both advisers agreed on the necessity of implementing a robust foreign policy to position Bangladesh as a significant player on the international stage. They committed to supporting initiatives that enable the Foreign Ministry to lead on foreign policy matters.

The event concluded with the two advisers receiving mementos commemorating the significant episodes of July-August.
