Dhaka: ‘July: Martibhumi Othaba Mrittu’ (July: Motherland or Death), a book on the July Uprising written by Interim Government’s Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, has been unveiled today. The unveiling ceremony took place at the Poet Sufia Kamal auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, several notable figures were in attendance at the event, including Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam, National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, and National Citizens Party Joint Member Secretary Rifat Rashid. Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan mentioned that he wrote the book briefly due to time constraints and expressed his intention to provide a more detailed account in the next edition.

During the event, Bhuiyan encouraged protesters to document their stories to ensure a comprehensive history of the July movement is recorded within the next two or three years. Adviser Asif Nazrul pointed out the book’s briefness as a limitation and urged for a more detailed depiction of the characters involved in the movement. He also called on publishers to compile the stories of every injured person and martyr from the July movement, emphasizing that each participant has a unique story to tell.

NCP Convener Nahid Islam reflected on the strategy of the movement, stating that they initially did not aim for a singular goal. He explained that the movement was designed to arise from the people’s will, and once the public declared the need for the government’s fall, the official announcement was made. This announcement was delivered from Shaheed Minar, a significant site in the movement’s history. He added that the book contains a brief description of the uprising, highlighting the movement’s plan to involve people spontaneously.
