Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today conducted a drive at Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) over alleged irregular appointments and promotions, as well as awarding work orders to BCSCL in exchange for excessive money.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC’s Deputy Director (Public Relations) Akhtarul Islam stated that a special operation was initiated from the ACC head office. During the operation, the team uncovered sufficient documentation of irregularities, including violations of seniority rules, premature promotions to director positions, and non-completion of service tenure in feeder posts.

Additionally, the ACC enforcement team discovered evidence of contract renewal with GTC, the contractor of Madhyapara Granite Mining Company, without a tender process. Relevant records were collected during the operation, and a detailed report will be submitted to the commission after reviewing the collected records.

Meanwhile, an enforcement team from the Kushtia Integrated District Office of the ACC conducted a drive on allegations of irregularities at the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia district. During the inspection, the team assessed the quality and quantity of food and interviewed some service recipients. It was found that although there are 25 approved doctor posts, only 8 doctors are currently working, leading to a strain in providing services to more than one hundred patients admitted daily to the 50-bed hospital.

Another ACC team from the Rangamati Integrated District Office conducted a drive over allegations of irregularities in the implementation of the ‘Kaptai Lake Water Supply Project’ in Rangamati. The team visited the Public Health Engineering Department and collected records related to the complaint. It was revealed that the project, costing Taka 334 crore, was awarded to the second lowest responsive bidder instead of the lowest bidder.
