Chattogram: Police have apprehended a fugitive father who was sentenced to death for the 2011 murder of his infant daughter. The arrest was made by the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the convict was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a road accident.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Abul Hossain, also known as Abdullah, aged 37, was taken into custody on Tuesday. He had previously escaped from Kashimpur High Security Prison amidst chaos following the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 6. Hossain, originally from Shambhupur Rail gate area in Bhairob upazila of Kishoreganj district, had evaded capture by moving around various locations within Chattogram district.

Hossain had been admitted to the hospital on December 13 due to critical injuries from a road accident. Acting on intelligence, ATU officers conducted a raid at the hospital, leading to his arrest. Legal proceedings are underway against him following his apprehension.

In 2017, the First Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Kishoreganj sentenced Hossain to death after finding him guilty of strangling his 18-month-old daughter in 2011. The murder case was filed by his wife, Suraiya Begum, at Bhairob Thana in the same year.
