Minister Mahbub Emphasizes Citizen-Centric Digital Transformation at UN Summit

Baku:Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, ICT Division and Science and Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam stressed the importance of a citizen-centric approach to digital transformation during the 8th session of the "UN Governance Innovation Summit Advancing Future-Ready Institutions" in Baku, Azerbaijan. He underscored that digital transformation should be measured by accessibility, swiftness, and transparency rather than just the number of technologies deployed.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbub Anam participated in a cross-examination dialogue titled "Challenging Conventional Approaches to Governance Innovation and Anticipatory Governance." He emphasized that technology alone cannot transform public administration, highlighting the necessity of digital connectivity and institutional preparedness to translate this connectivity into tangible public welfare.

The minister outlined the need for governments to understand core problems before adopting new technologies, streamline administrative processes, define institutional roles, and ensure inter-agency coordination. He identified three critical pillars for governance innovation capable institutions, skilled human resources, and public trust grounded in data governance and cybersecurity.

Mahbub Anam asserted that government systems must adapt to the needs of citizens, rather than forcing citizens to adapt to administrative systems. He highlighted initiatives to integrate AI and automation in government processes to build a transparent and efficient administration, aligned with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's vision.

The minister concluded by stating that the government is moving beyond digitizing paper-based procedures and is focused on redesigning service-delivery mechanisms around citizen requirements, aiming to streamline bureaucracy and create a more responsive government.
