Hasan Mahmud’s Five-Wicket Haul Bolsters Bangladesh Against West Indies

Sylhet:Hasan Mahmud continued his remarkable performance in Test cricket by securing his fifth five-wicket haul, as Bangladesh mounted a comeback against West Indies on the second day of the final Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hasan claimed five wickets during the morning session, including the crucial dismissal of centurion Amir Jangoo, which provided Bangladesh with a much-needed breakthrough after West Indies' dominance on the opening day.

Jangoo was dismissed after scoring 111 runs overnight when Hasan bowled a delivery that disturbed his off-stump, following his decision to leave the ball. Hasan then removed Roston Chase with a catch behind the stumps, nearly achieving a hat-trick, but Joshua Bishop survived an lbw call after a successful review. Hasan completed his five-wicket haul with the stumping of Justin Greaves by wicketkeeper Liton Das before lunch.

This achievement marked Hasan's fifth five-wicket haul in Test matches, making him the leading Bangladesh fast bowler in terms of five-wicket hauls, surpassing Shahadat Hossain's record. It was also Hasan's first five-wicket haul on home soil in his 19-Test career, with previous successes in Rawalpindi, Chennai, Darwin, and Abu Dhabi.

Hasan's spell was pivotal for Bangladesh, who had struggled to take wickets in the final sessions of the first day after early successes by Taskin Ahmed. West Indies had finished the day strongly with Jangoo's century and Greaves well-settled, but Hasan's effective use of the new ball reshaped the match's dynamics.
