Dhaka:Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud believes the hosts are well-positioned to take a lead in the first innings of the second Test against West Indies, aiming to level the series after an eight-wicket defeat in the first match.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hasan Mahmud expressed optimism that the ongoing partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy could help Bangladesh erase the deficit. He stated, "If Mushfiq bhai and Hridoy can continue this partnership, I think we can reach their total. Hopefully, even if we cannot take a substantial lead, we can at least cover the deficit."
Hasan Mahmud's remarkable bowling performance, claiming 6-90, played a crucial role in bringing Bangladesh back into contention when West Indies seemed set for a significant first innings total. His efforts helped bowl West Indies out for 356. By the end of the day, Bangladesh had reached 88-3, with Hridoy batting on 29 and Mushfiqur on 19.
Hasan further explained the strategies employed by Bangladesh's fast bowlers, noting the importance of exploiting swing and seam movement with the new ball, and focusing on controlling the scoring rate and building pressure through partnership bowling as the ball ages.
