Rangpur:An inmate of Rangpur Central Jail died at a local hospital following a sudden illness on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Lebu Mia, a 42-year-old from the Nilphamari district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Deputy Jailer of Rangpur Central Jail Md Akramul Haque confirmed the incident on Friday afternoon. Lebu Mia had been serving a life sentence in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Jail authorities reported that Lebu Mia fell ill unexpectedly on Thursday night. He was found unconscious and was taken to the prison ward of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he passed away at approximately 1130 p.m. He had been incarcerated at Rangpur Central Jail since 2020.
