Dhaka:A court in Dhaka has issued an arrest warrant against actress Pori Moni in connection with a case involving alleged assault, vandalism, and intimidation of businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud. The warrant was issued by Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman after Pori Moni failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing to record testimony. Despite submitting a petition for more time, the court rejected her request and proceeded with the warrant.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court has scheduled the next hearing for December 23. The case was initially filed by Nasir Uddin Mahmud, the president of Savar Boat Club, on July 6, 2022, against Pori Moni and two others, identified as her associate Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni and costume designer Junaid Bogdadi Jimi, also known as Jim.
The investigation report by Inspector Md Monir Hossain of the Police Bureau of Investigation, Dhaka district, was submitted on March 18, 2024. The report substantiated the allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and Jim, while it did not find evidence to support the allegations against Boni. On January 26, 2025, the court framed charges against Pori Moni and Jim, ordering the trial to proceed.
The First Information Report (FIR) in the case accuses Pori Moni and her associates of frequenting expensive clubs, consuming alcohol, and failing to pay for their drinks. It also alleges that they used their connections with police officers to intimidate others by filing false cases. The incident in question occurred on June 9, 2021, at the Savar Boat Club, where Pori Moni allegedly pressured Nasir Uddin for a bottle of Blue Label whisky, leading to an altercation and subsequent injury to Nasir Uddin.
