Dhaka Stock Market Rebounds After Four Consecutive Losses

Dhaka:The country's capital market experienced a much-needed recovery today, breaking a four-session losing streak. This rebound was driven by bargain hunting in recently battered stocks, which helped restore some investor confidence.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the benchmark DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose by 57.3 points to settle at 5,342 points, up from the previous session's 5,284 points.

The market opened positively with modest buying interest, although intermittent selling pressures trimmed some early gains. However, buying momentum strengthened in the latter half of the session, pushing the index upward. A late-session surge in buying further reinforced the positive trend, enabling the market to close firmly in the green.

Despite the recovery, market turnover declined by 7.7 percent, amounting to Taka 5.2 billion, down from Taka 5.6 billion in the previous session. Textile stocks accounted for the highest share of turnover at 30.5 percent, followed by general insurance at 11.9 percent and pharmaceuticals at 10.2 percent. All sectors posted positive returns, with paper stocks leading the gains with a 2.7 percent rise, followed by ceramics at 2.5 percent and textiles at 2.0 percent.

Out of 395 issues traded, 280 advanced, 49 declined, and 66 remained unchanged. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended the session positively, with its selected indices, CSCX and CASPI, gaining 63.2 points and 100.7 points respectively.

Despite the day's recovery, persistent uncertainties and lingering investor caution continued to weigh on the broader market sentiment.
