Dhaka:Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman has called on the government to implement immediate and sustainable measures to tackle the escalating challenges faced by the country's garment industry. He warned that inaction could exacerbate the instability of the already fragile economy.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Rahman emphasized in a Facebook post that the survival of the garment sector is crucial not only for the industry owners but also for the nation. He insisted that the government must assume a responsible role in safeguarding both the industrial entrepreneurs and the workforce involved in the sector.

Rahman highlighted several critical issues plaguing the garment industry, including the lack of an uninterrupted power supply, high fuel costs, increased production expenses, and global market uncertainties. He also pointed out that the cancellation and withdrawal of export orders, along with a decrease in new orders, are exerting severe pressure on the industry.

Additionally, he noted that garment workers are experiencing increasing financial difficulties due to the rising costs of housing, essential goods, transportation, and healthcare. Rahman urged the government to implement immediate measures to stabilize the principal export sector of the country.

He suggested that ensuring a steady power supply and boosting production could help alleviate other challenges with rational consideration and suitable actions. Rahman also called on all parties involved to maintain restraint and act responsibly to prevent further instability in the industry.

He cautioned that any failure to address these issues could push the country's fragile economy closer to collapse, stressing that there is no time for delay.
