Khulna:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken legal action against five individuals, including the former Khulna-6 lawmaker Mohammad Rashiduzzaman, by filing five separate cases. These cases involve accusations related to the acquisition and possession of assets that allegedly exceed their known sources of income.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other defendants in these cases are former Khulna City Corporation (KCC) councillor Sufia Rahman Shunu, her husband Sheikh Mohammad Faruk Ahmed, who is the organising secretary of the Khulna City Awami League, as well as former Director General of the Soil Resource Development Institute Bidhan Kumar Bhandar and his wife, Doly Bhandar.
The ACC has filed three cases against Rashiduzzaman, Shunu, and Faruk Ahmed, while the remaining two cases target Bidhan Kumar Bhandar and his spouse. The legal proceedings were initiated by ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Zahid Fazal, who filed three of the cases, and Deputy Assistant Director Ashikur Rahman, who filed the other two at the commission's Integrated District Office in Khulna on Monday afternoon.
Specifically, Rashiduzzaman is accused of amassing assets worth Tk 75.90 lakh beyond his known sources of income. In another case, Faruk Ahmed faces allegations of acquiring illegal assets valued at Tk 1.17 crore through the misuse of his party position. Shunu is accused in a separate case of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 36.91 lakh, purportedly with the help of her husband, who is also implicated for aiding in the acquisition of assets inconsistent with her known sources of income.
Two additional cases involve Bidhan Kumar Bhandar, who is accused of acquiring assets valued at Tk 73 lakh beyond his known sources. His wife, Doly Bhandar, is charged separately for possessing and benefiting from illegal assets worth Tk 1.08 crore, allegedly acquired by her husband.
The commission's actions are in response to allegations that the accused have assets that exceed their declared sources of income.
