Doha:Invest Bangladesh is moving forward with 15 industrial-scale solar power projects through public-private partnerships (PPPs) to attract private investment in renewable energy and support the nation's increasing demand for clean electricity.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the projects are planned on underutilized government land and are set to progress through PPPs in the coming months, as stated by Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury at the World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha.

During a ministerial panel on energy-transition priorities, Chowdhury explained how Invest Bangladesh's formation merged investor identification, site preparation, policy coordination, and PPP structuring to expedite renewable energy development. He also addressed inquiries about the Sonagazi solar PPP project, which utilizes underused government land, and its potential replicability for other projects nationwide.

This initiative aligns with Bangladesh's strategy to expand renewable energy production and mobilize private capital to meet the rising demand for electricity while diversifying its energy sources.

Invest Bangladesh also highlighted the country's solar investment opportunities during a session titled 'Invest in Bangladesh The Billion-Dollar Opportunity Hiding in Plain Sight' at the forum, attended by institutional investors and global financiers. The session emphasized opportunities for project developers, operators, investors, and financing partners.

Nahian Rahman Rochi, a member of Invest Bangladesh, presented the nation's investment prospects, citing a young workforce, competitive operating costs, and a significant domestic market. The presentation also included LNG infrastructure, the proposed Chattogram Free Trade Zone, and investment opportunities in electronics, advanced textiles, and medical devices.

Rochi noted that investors showed interest in the projects, while regional partners expressed interest in collaborations related to economic zones and port facilities. Additionally, at an investment ministerial roundtable, Chowdhury advocated for recognizing the impact of investments in emerging economies and proposed that UNCTAD showcase successful investments and explore risk-sharing mechanisms to aid investment mobilization.

The World Investment Forum 2026, organized by UNCTAD, is being held in Doha from October 25 to 27.
