Dhaka:Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has expressed strong motivation among the national cricket team to win the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies. This series is a crucial step for Bangladesh in their quest to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh is currently ranked fourth in the WTC standings, while the West Indies occupy the eighth position. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh has six matches remaining in this cycle, including the two Tests against the West Indies. To secure a place in the WTC final, Bangladesh needs to win at least four matches and draw one. Following the West Indies series, Bangladesh will face South Africa away and conclude their campaign against England at home next year.

The first Test against the West Indies is set to commence on Wednesday, with Bangladesh finalizing their preparations. Simmons emphasized the team's focus on making it to the WTC final, an opportunity they are encountering for the first time.

Simmons noted that the team did not have the entire squad for an extended preparation period due to some players' involvement in a tri-nation series in the UAE. However, he remarked that the players maintained their competitive edge by staying active in cricket. Despite not being an ideal situation, Simmons is confident in the team's readiness after recent practice sessions.

He commended the players for their attitude and effort during practice, highlighting their commitment to their objectives. Simmons also mentioned that Liton Das is expected to be available for the opening Test, which would further strengthen the team, barring any last-minute fitness issues.
