Dhaka:West Indies head coach Darren Sammy is urging his team to clinch the series against Bangladesh to strengthen their negotiating position with the Cricket West Indies board.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Cricket West Indies has recently implemented a 25 percent reduction in international players' retainer fees due to financial, developmental, and competitive challenges. Sammy feels that ending the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle on a high note would empower the players in their negotiations with the board.

Sammy expressed confidence that a good performance in the Bangladesh series could help improve their standing in the WTC rankings. Currently, the West Indies are ranked eighth, while Bangladesh holds the fourth position. The coach highlighted the importance of finishing in the top five, noting the International Cricket Council's investment in prize money for the championship.

He also emphasized the potential to attract sponsors through improved performances, citing the team's competitive play during the India series as an example. Despite challenges, Sammy believes the West Indies can leverage their recent positive performances across all formats to succeed in the upcoming matches against Bangladesh.
