Dhaka:The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has recommended procuring six cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the country's energy demand. This recommendation involves five cargoes from BP Singapore Pte Limited and an additional cargo from Qatar Energy Trading LLC.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the recommendations were made during the committee's 51st meeting of 2026, held on Saturday. The meeting, presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, discussed two proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The first proposal recommends purchasing five LNG cargoes from BP Singapore Pte Limited. The purchase will be conducted through the direct procurement method under Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025. The price for these purchases is set at JKM-0.17 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).

The second proposal involves the procurement of an additional LNG cargo from Qatar Energy Trading LLC as part of an existing government-to-government long-term agreement. This cargo is scheduled for delivery on December 20, 2026, at a price of JKM-USD 0.10 per MMBtu, which differs from the rate in the existing contract.
