Dhaka:Bangladesh Bank has successfully restored access to its official website after a three-day shutdown implemented to counter potential cyber threats amid rising global security concerns.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the central bank took its website offline on Thursday as a precautionary measure to evaluate possible cybersecurity risks following global warnings about cyber threats.

While Bangladesh Bank's website is now back online, several private commercial banks' websites remain offline pending the completion of risk assessments. Arief Hossain Khan, a spokesperson and executive director of the bank, stated that technical teams thoroughly examined the website for vulnerabilities and software bugs.

The precautionary shutdown was prompted by the disclosure of two critical security vulnerabilities in PHP, a programming language widely used by online platforms, which raised fears globally that hackers might exploit these flaws to target servers and websites. Despite the temporary shutdown, banking services, including internet banking and mobile financial services, remained operational without any disruption to customer transactions.

In response to the vulnerabilities, government agencies and commercial organizations worldwide have been taking preventive measures, with numerous entities temporarily shutting down their websites. This comes amid reports of millions of hacking attempts globally, leading organizations to audit their technology infrastructure and bolster cybersecurity defenses.
