Dhaka:The Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) announced a reduction in gold prices by Tk 3,324 per bhori on Sunday, bringing the price of 22-carat gold to Tk 220,858, including value-added tax (VAT).
According to United News of Bangladesh, the new prices became effective at 1000 am, as stated in a BAJUS press release. The association attributed the price adjustment to a drop in the local market price of pure gold.
Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 210,943 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 181,200, and traditional-method gold at Tk 148,016. BAJUS indicated that making charges would vary based on the jewellery's design, and VAT is included in the selling prices, prohibiting separate collection from customers.
For jewellery exchanges, a 12 percent deduction applies to the price, excluding making charges and stones, with an 18 percent deduction for purchases. VAT cannot be separately deducted in these transactions. The new prices will remain in effect at all jewellery establishments until further notice.
Before this adjustment, BAJUS last revised gold prices on October 23, when the price of 22-carat gold was set at Tk 224,182 per bhori, including VAT. At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 214,093 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 183,883, and traditional-method gold at Tk 150,232.
With this latest change, gold prices have been revised 126 times in the domestic market this year, with 60 increases, 65 decreases, and one VAT-related adjustment.
Meanwhile, silver prices remained unchanged. The current rates, inclusive of VAT, list 22-carat silver at Tk 3,849 per bhori, 21-carat silver at Tk 3,674, 18-carat silver at Tk 3,149, and traditional-method silver at Tk 2,391. Silver prices have been revised 76 times this year, with 36 increases and 40 decreases.
