Khulna:A tenant passed away at Khulna Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning after allegedly being struck on the head with a stick by his landlord during a dispute over house rent in Khulna city.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased has been identified as Rakibul Islam, aged 40. The police have detained the landlord, Majlis Khan, and his wife, Fatema Begum, for questioning related to the incident that occurred on Saturday.
Reports from police and locals indicate that the altercation between Rakibul and Majlis took place over house rent at the Shatarupa intersection of Basupara Bakultala on Saturday evening. During the argument, Majlis allegedly attacked Rakibul with a stick, resulting in critical injuries.
Locals promptly transported Rakibul to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries around 800 am on Sunday while receiving medical treatment. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Al Miraj Khan of Sonadanga Police Station stated that Rakibul's body has been placed in the hospital morgue for an autopsy. The landlord and his wife remain in police custody for further interrogation.
