Dhaka:The government has announced the suspension of the union delimitation process, which is part of the local government system's area definition efforts, just before the upcoming local government elections, as per a statement from the Local Government Division (LGD).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspension will remain in effect until further notice to avoid potential complications related to election-time administrative preparations, voter list updates, and the boundary demarcation of unions.

The delimitation process was being conducted under the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009, and the suspension order was also issued under a provision of this law. LGD officials have confirmed that a directive regarding this suspension has been communicated to all deputy commissioners across the 64 districts.
