Dhaka:A youth has been placed on a seven-day remand by a court in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act due to an objectionable Facebook comment involving a "sniper" following a photo of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to Rajshahi.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farjana Haque issued the remand order after police presented Md Abu Bakar Siddique, 22, in court, requesting the remand in connection with the case lodged at Ramna Police Station.

The case documents indicate that on October 21, three photos of the bus carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman were shared on the Facebook group 'The Beauty of Rajshahi.' In the comment section, a Facebook account named 'MD Abu Bakar Siddique' commented "Alas, there was a great opportunity, only a sniper was missing."

Law enforcement officials, utilizing information technology, identified the Facebook account holder and arrested Abu Bakar Siddique in the Gholharia Dakshinpara area under Paba Police Station in Rajshahi Metropolitan City. Following his arrest, his mobile phone was seized.

An inspection of the phone allegedly uncovered objectionable comments posted on various Facebook pages and groups. Consequently, Sub-Inspector Md Manik Hossain from the DB Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division filed a case against Siddique under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Ramna Police Station in the capital on October 23.
