Dhaka:The Ministry of Religious Affairs has called on media outlets to review and reconsider their reports and headlines regarding a recent statement made by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain (Kaikobad). The ministry noted that some reports did not accurately reflect the context of the minister's remarks.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ministry issued a press release highlighting concerns over several news reports published following the minister's comments to journalists at the triennial council of the National Imam Samiti. The release emphasized that headlines and the presentation of some reports failed to convey the full context, particularly those concerning educational institutions and madrasahs, potentially causing confusion among readers.
The ministry explained that the minister described any unexpected communal incident in the country as painful and regrettable, while noting that the Prime Minister had provided necessary directives to prevent future occurrences. It stressed that all necessary measures would be taken to avert such incidents.
The press release further underlined the importance of considering the relevant context to accurately understand the minister's statement. It warned that presenting parts of the statement out of context could lead to misinterpretation and confusion about its intended meaning.
The ministry urged the media to reconsider their published reports and headlines, make necessary corrections, and ensure that the information aligns with the actual meaning and context of the minister's remarks. It also called for media cooperation to provide the public with accurate information through responsible journalism, maintaining objectivity, professional responsibility, and impartiality.
