Dhaka:Legal action is being considered after an investigation into alleged politically motivated irregularities in the allocation of 1,413 plots in the capital from 2009 to 2024. The issue was the focal point of the second meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, chaired by Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting revealed that the plots in question were allocated in areas such as Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, Purbachal New Town, and Jhilmil. Significantly, 944 plots were allocated under the Purbachal New Town project. Reports have been received regarding alleged irregularities involving 1,074 of these plots, with 874 in Purbachal and 200 in Jhilmil. Consequently, procedural activities related to these plots have been suspended for further scrutiny.

A committee, formed in response to a directive from the High Court Division, examined relevant documents and submitted its findings to the ministry. During the meeting, discussions also covered the reconstruction of the main structures at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, with a target to complete the work by December. Additionally, a rooftop solar power project proposal, expected to generate 360 megawatts of electricity, has been sent to the Planning Commission for approval, with surplus power to be supplied to the national grid.

Furthermore, preparations are underway to lay the foundation stone of the new Secretariat in Agargaon on December 16. The committee also reviewed the progress on implementing its previous decisions and emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and cleanliness of the parliamentary premises.
