Khulna:Seven faculty members from the Life Science School at Khulna University have been awarded the 'Research Excellence Award-2025' for their outstanding contributions to research. The awards, newly introduced by the Life Science School, recognize achievements in research conducted throughout 2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the award ceremony took place at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium, with KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Rezaul Karim attending as the chief guest. The awards were conferred upon Professor Dr. Md Yamin Kabir of Agrotechnology, Professor Dr. Md Murchalin Billah of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Assistant Professor Sadhan Chandra Swarnakar of Environmental Science, Professor Dr. Alokesh Kumar Ghosh of Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology, Professor Dr. Md Iftekhar Shams of Forestry and Wood Technology, Associate Professor Md Monirul Islam of Pharmacy, and Associate Professor Dr. Milton Halder of Soil, Water and Environment Science.
The vice-chancellor highlighted the government's efforts to transform the population into skilled human resources through increased investment in innovation and research. He emphasized Khulna University's goal of contributing to national development through impactful research, noting the university's increased research funding and focus on industry-academia collaboration. He also mentioned the university's achievement in securing eight projects under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project.
KU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Harunur Rashid Khan and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md Nurunnabi were present as special guests. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md Golam Hossain, dean of the Life Science School. Professor Dr. Md Nabiul Islam Khan, head of the Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline and event organizing committee convener, delivered the welcome address.
The award-winning teachers presented their research activities, and additional honors were given to Professor Dr. Md Murchalin Billah and Professor Dr. Md Nasif Ahsan of the Economics Discipline, who recently received the national 'Distinguished Teacher Award' from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
