Dhaka:The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) experienced a modest recovery today, gaining 20.5 points. This increase comes after a series of sharp declines in previous sessions, as investors engaged in bargain hunting with recently undervalued stocks. Despite the upward movement, market uncertainty persists.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, rose to 5,429 points from 5,409 points in the last trading session. Investor confidence remains fragile due to concerns over weaker corporate earnings, ongoing domestic economic challenges, and geopolitical tensions, which continue to limit broader market participation.

Market turnover dropped to a seven-month low of Taka 410 crore, indicating a cautious approach by investors. Textile stocks accounted for the highest turnover at 24.0 percent, followed by general insurance at 13.4 percent and pharmaceuticals at 8.8 percent.

Most sectors showed mixed returns. General insurance led the gainers with a 2.0 percent rise, followed by life insurance with a 1.0 percent increase and engineering with a 0.9 percent gain. However, jute stocks saw a significant decline of 4.0 percent, while services and financial institutions fell by 1.0 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively. Out of the 395 issues traded on the DSE, 196 advanced, 135 declined, and 64 remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed in negative territory. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) fell by 5.2 points, and the All Share Price Index (CASPI) dropped by 6.5 points. The modest rebound on the DSE follows a cumulative decline of nearly 70 points in previous sessions, indicating selective buying interest rather than a broad-based recovery in investor sentiment.
