Dhaka:The winter season is anticipated to commence across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, in the third week of November. Based on recent weather patterns observed over the past few years, the season is likely to last until February.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the coldest conditions are expected to intensify from late December and continue through January, with the chill potentially extending into mid-February. Daytime temperatures are projected to rise after mid-February.
In Dhaka, temperatures could drop to between 11-13 degrees Celsius during winter, as per Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) official AKM Nazmul Hoque. He noted that a more accurate prediction would be possible following a comprehensive survey report. The capital has already started experiencing northern winds, indicating a shift towards cooler weather, with residents likely to feel the winter effects distinctly from the third week of November.
Nazmul Hoque indicated that while winter is expected to spread across Bangladesh from mid-November, the northeastern and northwestern regions might experience it as early as the first week of November. He also mentioned that the peak of winter would occur from December through January.
Meteorological data from previous years show that Dhaka recorded minimum temperatures of 17.5°C in November 2025, 13.5°C in December 2025, and 11.9°C in January 2026. In earlier years, minimum temperatures in Dhaka dropped to 13.2°C in January 2025 and 11°C in January 2024.
In northern areas like Panchagarh and Thakurgaon, residents have already experienced cooler temperatures and fog since early October. On recent days, Tetulia in Panchagarh recorded minimum temperatures of 19.3°C and 19.5°C, contrasting with Dhaka's maximum temperature of 36.5°C. These variations highlight the differing weather conditions as the country transitions into winter.
The timing and severity of the winter season will depend on ongoing weather conditions and official meteorological evaluations.
