Dhaka:The two-day international conference on computing and applications, 'IEEE COMPAS 2026', commenced today at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy. This event is organized by the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Dhaka University (DU), with a focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, high-performance computing, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and computer vision, and their practical applications.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conference was inaugurated by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Muhammed Almujaddade Alfasane, who emphasized that the quality of research should be assessed by its reproducibility and positive impact on human lives, rather than just by published papers, citations, or institutional rankings. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining research ethics, responsible data usage, transparency, and credibility, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.

Special guests at the event included DU Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr. Upama Kabir and IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair Prof Dr. Celia Shahnaz, or Prof. Dr. Mohammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan. Prof. Upama Kabir remarked on the active research being conducted by faculty and students in AI, machine learning, IoT, and cybersecurity. She encouraged researchers to apply these innovations to address real-world challenges in sectors like health, agriculture, transportation, and climate change.

Prof. Mohammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan stressed the necessity of bolstering research and technological innovation across the nation. Meanwhile, Prof Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Chairman of the DU CSE Department and General Chair of the conference, presided over the inaugural session, underscoring the need for a robust GPU-based high-performance computing infrastructure to meet the increasing computational demands of modern research.

The second day of the conference will include a special plenary session at Bangla Academy, focusing on the role of AI in higher education.
