Chattogram:A 2.2-kilometer cycling track has been inaugurated along Chattogram city's Airport Road, which the city corporation describes as the country's first dedicated cycling facility.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the project aims to ease traffic congestion and promote environmentally friendly transportation. The government has also pledged to develop more such facilities across the port city.

The track was formally inaugurated by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday morning. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and Abu Sufian, MP, were also present at the event.

Constructed under the city corporation's "Chattogram Airport Road Expansion and Other Physical Infrastructure Development" project, the four-lane road extends from Shah Amanat International Airport to the elevated expressway. The cycle track runs alongside a landscaped walkway, and footpaths line both sides of the road, with a central median divided by kerbstones.

The mayor highlighted that the separate lane is expected to enhance cyclists' safety and promote eco-friendly travel, encouraging residents to adopt healthier, more active lifestyles. The initiative also aims to provide safe and comfortable transport for city residents and tourists, with the city corporation anticipating an improvement in the urban landscape.

Following the inauguration, the finance minister, mayor, and local lawmaker invited guests and cyclists to ride along the new track.
