Parliamentary Committee Proposes Increase in Primary Schools

Dhaka:The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has recommended increasing the number of primary schools to ensure enrollment for all children nationwide.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the first meeting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), the committee also urged the filling of all vacant head teacher positions in government primary schools promptly. The meeting took place at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by Committee Chairman Mahmuda Habiba.

The committee further suggested making moral education compulsory at the primary level. Attendees included Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj, and committee members such as Lutfur Rahman Khan Azad and Md Abdus Salam.

A presentation at the meeting detailed sector-wise allocations and expenditure plans, including budget specifics for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027. The committee emphasized the importance of the school feeding program's quality and nutritional standards and recommended punitive actions if standards are not met.

Additionally, the committee urged the proper implementation of budget allocations across different sectors and encouraged committee members to visit primary schools to inspect their operations firsthand. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass-Education, department heads, and Parliament Secretariat officials.
