Chattogram:The Coast Guard has intercepted a boat in the Patenga area of Chattogram city, seizing 40 tonnes of cement that was reportedly being smuggled to Myanmar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the cement, valued at approximately Tk 4 lakh, was discovered during a special operation conducted by the Coast Guard Outpost in Patenga. The operation took place at around 1:00 am on Monday, near Ghat No. 12 of the Karnaphuli Channel under Patenga police station.
The Coast Guard personnel, acting on a tip-off, searched a suspicious cargo boat and found 800 sacks of cement weighing 40 tonnes. The smugglers managed to flee upon noticing the Coast Guard's presence, resulting in no arrests being made. However, legal proceedings concerning the seized cement and boat are currently underway.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Coast Guard Media Officer, stated that the Coast Guard will persist with such operations to combat smuggling and trafficking activities.
