Joypurhat:The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized drugs, smuggled goods, illegal timber, and rare touchstones in seven separate operations across the country's border areas on Monday, resulting in the detention of three individuals.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a joint operation involving BGB, police, and the Department of Narcotics Control in Joypurhat led to the detention of a listed suspect, Mohammad Rezwan, in Panchbibi. Authorities recovered 84 yaba tablets, 108 tapentadol tablets, two mobile phones, and Tk 7,470 in cash, with the total value of the seized items estimated at Tk 80,570.
In the Goga border area of Khulna, the 21 BGB Battalion seized 417 bottles of Indian intoxicating syrup, valued at approximately Tk 1.668 lakh. Meanwhile, the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) intercepted Indian firecrackers, basmati rice, sarees, cattle, oil, liquor, and other smuggled goods, including an easy-bike, in Brahmanbaria and Cumilla. The total value of these seizures was estimated at Tk 45.279 lakh.
The Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) carried out operations in several border areas, seizing cattle, fuchka, blankets, juice, and fish worth about Tk 22.63 lakh. In Lalmonirhat, the Teesta Battalion (61 BGB) recovered 42 bottles of Indian Escap syrup, while the Chhotohorina Battalion (12 BGB) confiscated 31 cubic feet of illegally transported teak logs.
In Rangpur, a joint operation by the 51 BGB Battalion and SRB-13 resulted in the detention of two individuals and the recovery of two rare touchstones weighing a total of 50 kg, with an estimated value of Tk 50 lakh.
Separately, in Thanchi, a tourist vehicle accident on the Dim Pahar-Tendumukh road resulted in two fatalities and serious injuries to five others. BGB personnel assisted in the rescue operation, ensuring the injured received medical attention at a hospital.
