Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged families, communities, and the state to work together to ensure a safe and risk-free childhood for every child, highlighting the need for quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and opportunities for sports and cultural activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister issued this call in a message on the eve of Children's Rights Day and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. The events will be commemorated from October 6 to 8.
The Prime Minister emphasized the moral, social, and national responsibility of creating an environment where children can develop their talents and potential. He recalled that Bangladesh Shishu Academy was established in 1976 by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to promote children's welfare and development, and it introduced the National Children's Award competition in 1978.
Prime Minister Rahman also acknowledged the efforts of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in advancing children's rights, including Bangladesh's involvement in the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour in 1994.
Despite advancements, the Prime Minister noted ongoing challenges such as child labour, social violence, child marriage, and discrimination, which require collective action to address. He expressed optimism that children would propel Bangladesh to new heights globally in various fields.
He hoped that the golden jubilee of Bangladesh Shishu Academy would inspire new dreams for child welfare and development, wishing success to all involved in the field on these significant occasions.
