Dhaka:Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Kayser Kamal, expressed interest in establishing a parliamentary friendship group between Bangladesh and Montenegro to enhance bilateral relations and promote the exchange of parliamentary experience.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion took place when Montenegrin Parliament member Gordan Stojovic visited Kayser Kamal at his office. During the meeting, Kamal emphasized the importance of legislatures, which consist of directly elected representatives, in maintaining democratic practices, balancing power, and strengthening the connection between the government and the public.

Stojovic noted that Montenegro's parliament, similar to Bangladesh's Jatiya Sangsad, is unicameral with 81 members. He expressed interest in forming a friendship group to bolster bilateral relations, promote parliamentary democracy, and exchange legislative experiences.

Kamal welcomed the proposal, highlighting the necessity of political stability for Bangladesh's socioeconomic progress and urging the opposition to contribute constructively to national development. He also shared his optimism about the new phase of parliamentary democracy following Bangladesh's July mass uprising, hoping it would enhance living standards and economic freedom.

Stojovic added that Montenegro's parliamentary committees rigorously oversee the executive branch's activities. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat attended the meeting.
