Bus Driver Sued Following Fatal Mymensingh Collision

Mymensingh:A legal case has been initiated following a tragic road accident in Mymensingh city that resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including four members of a single family.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Mobarak Ali, a resident of Darihamidpur village in Jamalpur who lost family members in the incident, filed a complaint on Friday night at Kotwali Model Police Station against the bus driver. Mohammad Shibirul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of the police station, stated that the complaint was turned into a formal case against the unidentified driver shortly after midnight.

The police have yet to arrest the bus driver, who fled the scene along with his assistants following the crash. Both the bus and the CNG-run auto-rickshaw involved in the accident have been seized by the authorities.

The accident took place around 130 pm on Friday when a Rajib Paribahan bus traveling from Dhaka to Jamalpur collided with a passenger-laden CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Akua Bypass Road in Mymensingh. The collision crushed the auto-rickshaw, resulting in the immediate deaths of all seven passengers, who were all from Jamalpur.

The victims were identified as Rashida Begum, 70; her son Mofazzal Hossain, 50; Mofazzal's daughter Marjina Akter, 25; and Marjina's son Minan, 5, all from Darihamidpur village. Also killed were the auto-rickshaw driver Md Sujon Ali, 44, from Bir Gobindapur village, and Akram Ali, 51, along with his wife Momota Begum, 39, from Badechandi village, all in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

Local residents held a protest and a memorial prayer in Jamalpur town on Friday night in response to the fatalities. The bodies of the deceased were returned to their families that evening and were buried after separate funeral services on Saturday morning.
