Dhaka:Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that the new government, backed by a strong public mandate, is progressing with a strategic plan to fulfill its promises over the next five years.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister made these remarks during the opening session of the 'Bay of Bengal Conversation (BOBC) 2026', organized by the Centre for Governance Studies. The conference, held under the theme "Fragments, Frontiers and Futures Navigating Power, Technology and Trust in a World Rewritten," features participation from around 200 speakers, over 300 delegates, and more than 1,000 participants from over 100 countries.
The Prime Minister emphasized initiatives aimed at making Bangladesh a prime investment hub and strengthening its production capabilities. He highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring policy continuity for investors and outlined social protection programs such as the Family Card, Farmers Card, and Health Card to support disadvantaged communities.
Further, the Prime Minister spoke about recruiting 100,000 health workers, predominantly women, to provide primary healthcare services. On education reform, he stressed the importance of preparing students for real life and expanding opportunities for technical and vocational education.
Prime Minister Rahman also addressed the importance of improving language skills and fostering technological transformation to harness the potential of the country's youth. He discussed initiatives to enhance agricultural support and emphasized the significance of water security and environmental protection.
The government's plans include planting 250 million trees and advancing clean energy and recycling initiatives. Institutional reforms to ensure transparency and accountability, the protection of human rights, and the rule of law were also highlighted.
On the Rohingya crisis, the Prime Minister called for international support to ensure the safe and dignified repatriation of refugees to Myanmar. He underscored Bangladesh's strategic role in the Bay of Bengal region and the potential for expanded cooperation in trade, education, and climate initiatives.
He concluded by advocating for a collaborative approach in the Bay of Bengal region to ensure prosperity and development for all states involved.
