Thakurgaon:A young man has been sentenced to three months in jail in Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon after his mother reported his drug addiction and abusive behavior towards his parents.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the individual, identified as James alias Milon, 35, son of Md Sirajul Islam from the Nekmarad Bazar area, had been consuming cannabis and Yaba for several years. He frequently abused his parents, both verbally and physically, when they were unable to provide him with money for drugs.

Ranisankail Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mujibur Rahman stated that the situation escalated to the point where Milon's mother, Fatema Khatun, filed a complaint with the AC (Land) office. Following this, a raid by upazila administration officials on the family's home found Milon under the influence of drugs and in possession of 100 grams of cannabis.

As a result, a mobile court sentenced Milon to three months' imprisonment. Fatema Khatun expressed that her family had been struggling with her son's behavior for a long time and felt compelled to involve law enforcement in the hope of his recovery from addiction.

Md Amanullah Al Bari, officer-in-charge of Ranisankail Police Station, confirmed Milon's long-term addiction and history of assaulting family members for money, leading to his arrest and sentencing by the mobile court.
