Dhaka:Customs officials seized nine gold bars, weighing 1.049 kg, from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines employee at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the gold, valued at approximately Tk 2.10 crore, was discovered on Obaidur Rahman during a body search conducted by the Dhaka Customs House airport unit around 1120 pm. This search was carried out with help from Aviation Security (AVSEC) and in the presence of officials from other intelligence agencies.
The gold bars were wrapped in tissue paper and found in Obaidur's shirt pocket and around his waist belt. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) reported that the recovered gold weighed 1,049.40 grammes.
Following preliminary questioning, Obaidur provided information leading to the detention of a passenger for further questioning. Legal proceedings under the Customs Act, 2023, and other relevant laws are currently underway, according to the NBR.
