Kushtia:A student from the Islamic University has been left off the nomination list for the 2025 Prime Minister's Gold Medal due to prolonged session backlogs and delays in publishing results for the Pharmacy department.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Abdullah Al Mamun, a Pharmacy Department student from the 2019-20 academic session, filed a written complaint with the university authorities regarding his exclusion. He achieved a CGPA of 3.90 out of 4.00 and was the top performer in the combined undergraduate results for the Faculty of Biological Sciences for his session.
A notification from the University Grants Commission on August 16 specified that nominations for the PM's Gold Medal for 2022, 2023, and 2024 would be based on examination results published within those respective years. However, the 2025 nominations are to follow the PM's Gold Medal Policy-2025.
Abdullah Al Mamun claimed that his exams were conducted in November 2025, but the session backlog and administrative issues delayed the results until April 2026. In contrast, other departments within the Faculty of Biological Sciences had their results published in 2025. Consequently, a lower-ranked student from the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department was included in the 2025 nomination list instead of him.
Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, the former chairman of the Pharmacy department, acknowledged the challenges due to a shortage of faculty, with only four teachers available, leading to difficulties in conducting academic activities and result preparation. Additionally, issues with the university's website delayed the results by approximately three months.
Prof Mamun Al-Rashid, the student advisor at IU, confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated it would be forwarded to higher authorities for further action.
