Bus and Auto-Rickshaw Collision in Mymensingh Claims Seven Lives

Mymensingh:Seven passengers of a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw lost their lives when a passenger bus collided with the vehicle on the Akua Bypass Road in Mymensingh city on Friday noon.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the tragic incident occurred around 130 p.m. in the Gandropa area under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Model Police Station. The victims included three men, three women, and a five-year-old child, with five of them identified so far.

Four of the identified victims were members of the same family from Darihamidpur village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila. They were Rashida Begum, 70; her son Mofazzal Hossain, 50; her daughter Morjina Akhtar, 25; and Morjina's son Minan, 5. Mofazzal was employed as a mason in Gazipur, and the family was traveling from Jamalpur to Gazipur at the time of the accident.

The auto-rickshaw driver, Sujon Ali, was also among the deceased. He was the son of Asar Uddin from the Birgobindabari area in Jamalpur Sadar. Authorities are working to identify the remaining two victims using mobile phones and other available leads.

Police and locals reported that the collision involved a Dhaka-bound Rajib Paribahan passenger bus heading toward Jamalpur, which struck the auto-rickshaw head-on, crushing it completely and killing all occupants instantly.

Mohammad Shibirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, stated that the bodies have been transported to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsies. The police have seized the bus, but the driver and assistant managed to flee the scene. Legal proceedings are currently in progress.
