Lalmonirhat:Corn has emerged as a significant crop in Lalmonirhat, leading authorities to designate the district's central point as Corn Square. This area will feature an iconic architectural design to symbolize the region's agricultural success.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu stated that Corn Square would become as symbolic to Lalmonirhat as India Gate is to Delhi or Faisal Mosque is to Islamabad. The minister emphasized the transformation corn cultivation has brought to the district, marking it as the main cash crop and improving the lives of local farmers.
Dulu shared these insights during a gathering to inaugurate the construction of Corn Square in Lalmonirhat town. He noted the positive changes over the past three decades, with farmers like Abul Kasem of Hatibandha now cultivating corn successfully due to favorable soil conditions and satisfactory yields. These developments have also led to good market prices for the farmers' produce.
The rise of small agro-based industries around corn cultivation is fostering hopes of economic growth in this relatively underdeveloped region. The event was attended by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Hoque Prodhan, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, along with various government officials and political leaders.
