Measles Outbreak Continues to Claim Lives as Death Toll Rises

Dhaka:Three more children have died with measles symptoms and one from a confirmed measles case across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from confirmed and suspected measles to 1,114 since March 15.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that the recent fatalities include three children with suspected measles, increasing the death toll from suspected cases to 1,012. Additionally, one child died from a confirmed measles case, raising the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 102 between March 15 and October 2.

In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,221 new suspected measles cases reported, with the cumulative number of suspected cases reaching 194,084 since March 15. There were also 21 new confirmed measles cases, pushing the total to 21,623 during the same period.

The DGHS press release also indicated that from March 15 to October 2, a total of 172,021 patients with suspected measles were hospitalized, with 166,933 of them having been discharged.
