Stanford:Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Adviser Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir emphasized the importance of fiscal policy, investment planning, and public institutions in supporting a technology-led industry and skilled employment in Bangladesh. He addressed these issues during the Bangladesh-Silicon Valley Technology Dialogue held on September 27 at Stanford University.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the dialogue, organized by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Los Angeles, aimed to foster partnerships for the future of Bangladesh under the theme 'Technology, Talent and Partnerships for Bangladesh's Future.' A delegation sent by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman engaged with technology professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors, including the Bangladeshi diaspora, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation included State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad, and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj. Ambassador Tareq Md Ariful Islam also addressed the participants.
State Minister Shama Obaed highlighted the achievements of Bangladeshi professionals in the global technology sector and stressed the significance of science and technology diplomacy as a foreign policy priority. She pointed out the importance of technology transfer, workforce development, and strengthening connections between Bangladeshi and U.S. research and innovation ecosystems.
State Minister Bobby Hajjaj focused on the need for foundational learning for children alongside digital skills required for a changing economy. He advocated for practical teacher training, appropriate use of technology and AI in classrooms, and wider access to quality learning materials.
The event featured presentations on AI applications and semiconductor industry development by prominent academics and industry professionals, including Dr. Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed, Dr. Sharifa Sultana, Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Islam, and Dr. Mostofa Patwary. Dr. Saif Islam moderated a panel discussion on talent, technology, and capital, which included various industry leaders and experts.
Adviser Rehan Asif Asad reiterated the Government's commitment to bolstering Bangladesh's technology sector by linking research, education, startups, and industry. He highlighted recent initiatives like the BAER Summit as part of efforts to leverage Bangladesh's technical talent for innovation, investment, and skilled employment.
